You have already read about many of the ministries of this wonderful group of caring, compassionate members. I joined the Blessed Connections group to share my small gift of writing. As an English teacher and writer, it seemed a natural fit.

I send cards and letters to shut-ins and others in need of a little tender loving care. What I didn’t realize when I began this ministry was that “the gifts” would come back to me a hundred-fold.

I am better known as “the card lady” to countless nursing home patients, congregants, and others who need a cheery greeting or a warm hello.

What I never expected were the greeting cards in return, thank you notes from the recipients themselves, and warm letters from their family members.

Friendships have developed along the way as well. My intended purpose was to share Christian fellowship and God’s love with others who might be lonely, out of the mainstream, or in need of a bit of cheering up. However, their love, their well wishes, and their genuine and sincere thanks have become some of the greatest blessings in my life.

Family members say that these cards give them something to talk about when they visit the nursing home, they cheer up sometimes sterile rooms, and they send the message that their loved ones are ministered to.

The recipients themselves say that they feel so welcomed and befriended by the congregation in the case of those who can come to our services, and others say that the friendship extended and the kind, inspirational words brighten their day.

When I got involved in Blessed Connections, I never envisioned how a simple act of “sending cards” could turn into God’s work.

“Where your treasure is there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6: 21)
